Understanding Ethereum gas

Every action on Ethereum — sending ETH, swapping tokens, minting — consumes “gas,” and you pay for that gas in ETH. The price is quoted in Gwei, a tiny fraction of an ether. It has two parts: a network base fee that rises and falls with demand, and a priority fee (a tip) that you add to be included sooner. The Safe, Standard and Fast figures above reflect low, typical and higher tips drawn from recent blocks.

A simple transfer uses about 21,000 gas; contract interactions use more, so their total cost is higher. When the network is busy, both the base fee and tips climb — which is why timing a non-urgent transaction for a quieter period can save money.
