How to read the Fear & Greed Index
It’s a sentiment gauge, not a price predictor — it blends volatility, momentum, social activity, market dominance and search trends into one 0–100 score. Extreme readings, below roughly 25 or above roughly 75, have often marked points where price already moved a long way in one direction.
What to watch
- The 30-day trend matters more than any single day’s number.
- A sharp swing from greed to fear (or back) says more than the absolute level.
- “Extreme” can simply mean extreme, and stay that way for weeks — it’s not a timing signal on its own.
